Extensive experience of advising on insurance and reinsurance issues both in the UK and worldwide for brokers, companies and Lloyd's syndicates.Has an international arbitration practice and often acts in disputes between London market companies and overseas reinsurers.
Advises brokers and their professional indemnity underwriters. He has worked extensively with the Scandinavian, Latin American and Middle Eastern reinsurance industries.
Often acting for leading underwriters, he advises in the areas of avoidance on the grounds of misrepresentation and non-disclosure, LMX issues, coverage disputes, aggregation, follow settlements, inspections, commutations, accounts and insolvency. Advises on political risk and trade credit, bankers' blanket bonds and D&O.
Experience
- Acted for the brokers in Punjab National Bank v de Boinville, the leading Court of Appeal decision on the extent of the broker's duty of care
- Advised in relation to PA spiral issues, reinsurance issues arising from 9/11
- Acted for a group of excess of loss reinsurers on the loss of the Estonia.
- Advised reinsurers on both the TWA 800 and US Air Flight 427 disasters
- Other clients include insurance and reinsurance companies participating in, and reinsuring, the London market, together with brokers, inspection agents and other industry consultants
