Jamie specialises in banking litigation (including structured products and trade finance), fraud and asset tracing matters and strategic risk assessment and management.  He has been involved in a large number of complex and high profile cases in recent years both before domestic and international courts.

Experience

  • Representing a major international bank in proceedings arising from the alleged fraudulent extraction of funds from the Federal Republic of Nigeria (Compagnie Noga D'Importation et D'Exportation SA -v- Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited & Ors (Comm) (1999).
  • Acting for the Defendant in the successful trial of a preliminary issue, whereby the Claimant was precluded from pursuing a significant claim for alleged breach of warranty by its failure to give notice in the form specified by a Share Sale Agreement (Laminates Acquisition Co -v- BTR Australia Ltd [2004] 1 All ER (Comm) 737).
  • Acting for the Claimants in a successful action to enforce a letter of credit issued as security for a structured finance transaction enetered into by the Claimants and a subsidiary of Enron (Mahonia Limited and JP Morgan Chase Bank -v- WestLB AG [2004] EWHC 1938 (Comm)).
  • Representing a Canadian oil and gas company in proceedings for the recovery of funds extracted through a complex international fraud.
