LG advises on groundbreaking tidal stream project

20 February 2008

LG, the business law firm, has advised Marine Current Turbines Limited ("MCT") on its partnership with npower renewables to build one of the first ever tidal stream projects.

The project will see seven 1.5 MW turbines fitted to the sea bed in North Wales and powered by the movements of tidal currents to generate electricity.

LG advised MCT on the funding agreement for the tidal power project. Jonathan Riley, partner and head of Commerce and Technology at LG, led the team with assistance from solicitor Tom Coulson.

Jonathan Riley, said: "This is a groundbreaking project using very exciting technology. MCT is a leading innovator in the renewables sector – last year, we advised them when they developed the world’s first commercial-scale sub sea turbine. "

Martin Wright, managing director of MCT said the development with npower renewables is, "a significant step in commercialising the technology that opens up new opportunities for our technology to be deployed in other parts of the world."

npower renewables is one of the UK's leading renewable energy companies, dedicated to generating electricity using sustainable, environmentally-friendly resources.  It was advised by an in-house legal team.
