Unique investment vehicle to capitalise on lucrative transfers of football players

LG, the London-based business law firm, and Onside Law LLP, the sports law boutique firm, have advised a new client, Hero Investments LLP ("Hero"), on the establishment and structuring of the Hero Football Fund and a subsequent private fundraising.

The Hero Football Fund is a newly established closed-ended Jersey Unit Trust which will make investments in the global football industry. The majority of the Hero Football Fund's investments will be in football players and as such the Fund is believed to be a unique investment vehicle of its type. It is envisaged that investments will be made both through co-investment agreements with football clubs and through direct investments in or with football clubs. The return to investors will be generated primarily by transfers of football players.

The Hero Football Fund will be advised by its investment consultant, Pinhas Zahavi, a world renowned football agent. Hero will act as the investment adviser to the fund in conjunction with Pinhas Zahavi and has engaged David Elleray (the well known English referee) and David Griffith-Jones QC (a barrister, arbitrator and lecturer in sports law) as its consultants.

Corporate Finance partner, Victoria Younghusband, led the LG team advising Hero and the Hero Football Fund which included Nick Rucker and Claire Steel with Robert Field advising on tax.

Victoria says: "Hero has launched the Hero Football Fund to coincide with the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Interest in football and the global football industry is at an all?time high and opportunities to invest in this lucrative and entrepreneurial market are being identified by some of the world's most sophisticated investors. We are pleased to be associated with the Hero Football Fund and its advisers."

Simon Thorp of Onside Law LLP advised on all commercial matters relating to the Fund.

Simon says: "The Hero Football Fund illustrates how the sports industry is becoming more and more sophisticated. Onside Law looks forward to advising the Fund in future."

The managing trustee and administrator of the Hero Football Fund is JTC Trustees Limited, part of the Jersey Trust Company Group. Onside Law LLP will be the legal advisers to the Hero Football Fund in its future investments. Carey Olsen are the legal advisers as to Jersey law.
