LG continues to build on city redevelopment instructions

LG has been instructed by Centros Miller ("Centros") in relation to the proposed redevelopment of the Canal Corridor North – a £100m mixed-use scheme comprising 10 acres in Lancaster city centre.

Centros was recently chosen by Lancaster City Council as preferred developer for the retail-led scheme which will see the high street extended into an open streetscape style. Leisure developments will also feature in the scheme, including the retention of the existing two theatres, and further plans to regenerate the surrounding canal area with restaurants and bars are being considered.

Reid Architecture have been appointed to design the scheme. Master planning for the scheme will begin over the next few months and a planning application is expected for late 2005 or early 2006.

Jon Lloyd, partner at LG who will lead the team at LG, commented: "Centros has exciting plans for the regeneration of Lancaster's city centre and for the surrounding area. We've worked closely with them before over many years including recently Weavers Wharf, Kidderminster and Fremlin Walk, Maidstone and, as always, enjoy realising the impact that new retail and leisure facilities can bring to a town centre."

He adds: "This marks the fourth major regeneration project we have been instructed on in the past six months (including the Westgate Centre, Oxford for Oxford City Council, a town centre scheme in Huyton, Merseyside for Development Securities Plc and the regeneration of a major area of Cricklewood for Multiplex) and there are no signs that work in this area is slowing. Property, as an asset class, is currently enjoying very good performance and major retail developments seem to be leading the field at the moment."
